Admission Requirements

Grade 12 or equivalent or Mature Student Status. Courses are open to any applicant who possesses a good command of the English language and is able to follow instruction. An admissions interview will be administered to determine if the applicant has the required interest, motivation, and entry-level skills to take this program. Full-time students must attend the required hours per week as per the course schedule and may do so at times convenient to them. Part-time students may set their own schedules to a minimum of two training sessions per week. These times may be scheduled during the day, evenings, or on weekends.

Program Highlights

With the aging population and the demand for the best quality of life, the healthcare industry is facing a growing shortage of well-trained personnel. Throughout the North American healthcare industry, there is an acute need to increase the size of the workforce, as well as to raise the skill level of that workforce. This program is designed to provide the knowledge and practical skills training required for an employment-ready trained graduate as a Health Care Assistant / Long Term Care Aide / Resident Care Aide.

Career Opportunities

Training in the Health Care Assistant Program provides the opportunity for students to develop basic nursing and social service training skills necessary for employment in one of the following settings:

  • First Aid and CPR, Level 3 (certificate)
  • Food Safe (certificate)
  • Home Support Worker (certificate)
  • Caring for the Cognitively Challenged (certificate)
  • HCA Medication Administration (certificate)

Clinical Placement

  • One or more practice placement(s) in Home Support and/or Assisted Living
  • A practice placement focused on specialized Dementia Care
  • One or more practice placement(s) in a Multi-level or Complex Care facility
