Course Introduction

Healing Disorders introduces the difference between mental health and mental illness disorders, delirium, dementia, communication with clients that have language or speech disorders, ear disorders and vision problems, caring for new mothers, and developmental disorders. This course consists of 12 days (60 hours) of daily, participative learning sessions. A practice exercise and review questions are included at the end of each module to measure progress and reinforce the skills learned. There is also a lab exercise at the end of the course to provide further practice and review to reinforce the topics learned throughout the course, and to help prepare students for the exam.

Course Notes

Students are supplied with text books for ongoing reference. In addition to daily quizzes, presentations, individual and group projects, and chapter exams, there is a final exam upon completion of the course. Students must achieve a mark of 75% to successfully complete the course.

Course Breakdown

Mental Health Disorders: Listing factors that may contribute to mental health disorders, and explaining how to support clients with mental health issues

Confusion, Delirium, and Dementia: Differentiating between confusion, delirium, and dementia, and applying the principles to the care and support of a client with confusion, delirium, or dementia

Speech and Language Disorders: Describing how speech and language disorders are treated, and describing how computers can assist clients with speech disorders

Hearing and Vision Problems: Describing the effect of hearing and vision problems, and how to care for clients with hearing loss and/or vision problems

Caring for Mothers and Infants: Listing the emotional and physical changes a new mother my experience, and listing precautions that reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)

Development Disabilities: Identifying the areas of functioning limited by developmental disability, and explaining how a developmental disability can affect the client and the family
