Course Introduction
Anatomy and Physiology Part 1 provides students with the terminology and conditions related to some of the body systems: female reproductive, digestive, and urinary. Students learn to identify abnormal conditions of the female reproductive system and of a newborn child, describe the common conditions affecting the digestive system, and define the medical terms relating to the urinary system. This course consists of 15 days (75 hours) of daily, participative learning sessions.
Anatomy and Physiology Part 2 provides students with the terminology and conditions of some of the body systems: musculoskeletal, male reproductive, and cardiovascular. Students learn to describe the musculoskeletal anatomy, identify the vocabulary and terminology for the male reproductive system, and explain major pathological conditions affecting the heart and blood vessels. An overview of the remaining body systems will be introduced, including the nervous system, respiratory system, blood system, lymphatic and immune systems, the skin, the senses (specifically eyes and ears), and endocrine system. This course consists of 15 days (75 hours) of daily, participative learning sessions.
Course Prerequisites
Completion of Introduction to Medical Terminology.
Course Notes
In addition to quizzes, a research essay, and tests, there is a final course exam. Students must achieve an overall mark of 75% to successfully complete the course.
Course Breakdown
Part I:
Female Reproductive System: Identifying organs of the female reproductive system, menstruation and pregnancy, terminology, combining forms, suffixes and prefixes, vocabulary, gynecological pathology, laboratory tests, and clinical procedures.
Digestive System: Identifying anatomy and physiology, vocabulary, terminology, pathological conditions, and the main organs of the digestive system.
Urinary System: Identifying the anatomy of the major organs, the production of urine by the kidneys, terminology, structures, substances, pathological conditions of the kidneys and bladder, laboratory tests, and clinical procedures.
Part II:
Musculoskeletal System: Bones: structure, vocabulary, combining forms and suffixes, pathological conditions, and fractures. Joints: types, bursae, combining forms and suffixes, and pathological conditions. Muscles: types, actions of skeletal muscles, vocabulary, combining forms and suffixes, pathological conditions, laboratory tests, and clinical procedures.
Male Reproductive System: Identifying the anatomy, vocabulary, terminology, combining forms, prefixes and suffixes, sexually transmitted infections and pathological conditions, laboratory tests, and clinical procedures.
Cardiovascular System: Identifying the anatomy and physiology of the heart, circulation of the blood, blood vessels, blood pressure, vocabulary, terminology, pathological conditions of the heart and blood vessels, laboratory tests, and clinical procedures.
Remaining Body Systems: Nervous, respiratory, blood, lymphatic and immune, skin, eyes and ears, and endocrine.

Course Aim: Students will gain comprehensive knowledge in the fundamental physiologic and anatomic aspects of the Medical Office Assistant (MOA) industry.

Of interest to: This course is of interest to individuals actively pursuing MOA training as part of their life-long career journey. It is designed to provide the opportunity for students to develop the skills required to offer administrative support within the medical industry.
Method of Delivery: Students are enrolled in virtual training supported by a virtual instructor and a scheduled start date. In a situation where students require an alternate support model, online training supported by an Online Healthcare Facilitator may be arranged. Virtual training availability is dependent on class size and scheduling.
