Web 101 Course Introduction
In Web 101, students will learn to select and register domain name, set up a Web hosting account, and build their first site, post it to the Web for all to see.
In this course, students will work with a professional Web designer, and explore a wide variety of Web-based terms and technologies, including Web 2.0, social networking, blogging, domain names, and more, picking up concepts they need to know in making today’s Web technologies more interactive. Students explore the technical fundamentals of editing and uploading Web pages and gain an insight into online marketing and search engine optimization. By the end of the course, students will have launched a Web site and gained a basic grasp of how to use Web tools to make your content more interactive and reach your site’s target audience.

Course Notes
A Student Guide is provided for this course. Evaluation is based solely on an Academy of Learning College final exam. Prior to taking the final exam, students must successfully complete all the components of the online course material. Participants who receive 75% or higher on their exam will receive a certificate.

Lesson 1:
Understanding the Web: its history; Learn fundamentals of how the Web works; Exploring different site types – from blogs to social networks to e-commerce sites; Understand the concept of Web 2.0
Lesson 2:
Building a Site: Developing and structuring a Web site; Selecting domain names and host servers; Understanding how HTML pages and graphics work together; Customizing a site, and changing basic HTML codes to suit own needs
Lesson 3:
Marketing Your Content: Learn the three main ways content is promoted online using description, structure, and popularity; Introduction to the grassroots publicity of the online world; Explore different methods for marketing with social networking and social media platforms; Learn how to view and utilize site traffic statistics
