Information Design 1 Course Introduction
Information Design 1 provides students with systematic techniques for each stage of the Web site design process. Students learn how user demographics, competitive critiques, feature lists, sitemaps, and wireframes are used in information design.
Course Prerequisite(s)
Adobe Illustrator and Dreamweaver 1 or equivalent experience.
Course Aim
To provide the student with a thorough understanding of the systematic approach to designing information architecture for the Web.

Course Notes
A Student Guide is provided for this course. Evaluation is based solely on an Academy of Learning College final exam. Prior to taking the final exam, students must successfully complete all the components of the online course material. Participants who receive 75% or higher on their exam will receive a certificate.
Information Design 1 Course Breakdown
Lesson 1:
Basics of information design; Responsibilities of an information designer; Examine how information design is affected by user demographics; Analyzing user tasks in an information structure; Organization and delivery of site content; Working efficiently with clients and conducting competitive critiques
Lesson 2:
Classic Web site features review; Approaches to grouping and labeling content; Taking inventory of site content; Create a hierarchy; Recommendations for visual designers; Techniques for designing effective and professional-looking site maps
Lesson 3:
Methods for organizing information; Design tips for creating clean-looking, consistent, and effective wireframes; Examine standard and experimental page designs
