Interior and Insulation Inspection Course Introduction

In this course the student will get an understanding of inspecting residential thermal insulation, vapor retarders and ventilation systems, as well as the inspection of interior elements of residential dwellings such as walls, ceilings, floors, basements, doors, windows and interior stairs/railings, installed countertops and cabinets, and garage doors/door operators. The student will learn some common materials in insulation, moisture control, insulation and ventilation of walls, roofs, floors, basements and crawlspaces, and good air quality in buildings. The course also familiarizes the student with common problems associated with walls, ceilings and floors; trim, counters and cabinets; stairs; windows, skylights and solariums; doors; basements and crawlspace leakage. The difference between functional issues and cosmetic issues are identified in this course.

Course Aim

To familiarize the student with procedures involved in performing interior and insulation inspection in residential establishments.

Of Interest to

Individuals interested in pursuing a career as home inspectors, in a home inspection firm, starting their own home inspection business, or owning a franchise, and furthering their knowledge of interior and insulation inspection of residential establishments.

Course Notes

Students receive resource material for this course. There are three tests to evaluate student progress. Participants who receive 75% or higher overall will receive a certificate.

Method of Delivery

Learning supported by a qualified off-site instructor; students are provided with course content that includes all of the required courseware, and are supported by a live technical instructor during regular business hours. Students have access to an instructor via e-mail outside of regular business hours.
