The Personal Support Worker program was developed as part of the Ontario Governments plan to reform long-term care and support services provided to people living at home or in the long term care facilities. It is a new single training program that consolidates and replaces the training for healthcare aids, Home Support workers, Attendant care providers and Respite Workers.
Academy of Leanings new curriculum was designed to meet not only the current needs of the clients but also the demands of various workplaces for personal support workers. It provides the opportunity for students to develop the skills required to provide personal support services to consumer and their families, clients, and residents in the community, at home, and in long term care facilities and institutions. Services provided by the graduate include Assistant in Daily Living activities, Personal care and hygiene, Restorative/ Activation activities and home management activities.
The program provided by the Academy of Learning College follows the standards established by the National Association of Career Colleges (NACC).
The program length is only 28 weeks which includes off cite internship for 335 hours!
