Medical Office Assistant with Advanced Medical Transcription
This program provides students with the base knowledge, skills, and work experience to become employable in any medical setting. The skills acquired are:
- A thorough knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and pathophysiology, including the terminology used in medical and surgical procedures.
- Excellent spelling, editing, and proofreading skills, with a good command of English grammar, structure and style. The objective is to become a valued assistant to physicians, surgeons, dentists, and other medical professionals in producing medical reports which, in turn, become a permanent record of medical, scientific, and legal value.
- A comprehensive knowledge of medical office/hospital administrative procedures and basic clinical skills; a full range of computer and office skills, including those for current software, keyboarding, general office management, accounting, personal and professional development, and customer service.
Admission Requirements
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a strong commitment to confidentiality and integrity.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Successful completion of admissions interview and testing for adequate entry-level skills.
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent, and meeting the minimum provincial age requirement.
- Two letters of reference regarding personal character.
- A clear and relevant Criminal Records Check.
- Good command of the English language (written and oral).
