Web Designer
This program provides students with the necessary skills and knowledge required to create graphics and Flash animations for the Web, and to plan and design compelling interactive Web sites. It provides in depth knowledge of how to use Macromedia Dreamweaver and Notepad to create Web pages. In addition, the program introduces students to HTML and JavaScript programming, and thereby provides them with a great degree of control over the appearance of their Web sites and skills that are in demand by Web design companies. Students also gain skills and experience in using industry standard graphics programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Macromedia Fireworks to create, edit, and optimize graphics for the Web.

Recent studies indicate that strong growth in Web design jobs, particularly in the consulting sector, is expected over the next few years. Careers that correspond with the skills learned in this program include:

Duties & Responsibilities
Web designers source and combine the textual content, graphics, interactive elements, and navigation structures that comprise Web sites. Web designers use their artistic and creative vision to design the look and feel of a Web site, and use Web software and programming skills to create Web sites. Their duties may include:

  • Presenting creative ideas.

  • Assessing client and end user needs.

  • Consulting with IT professionals to determine how best to incorporate a Web site into existing frameworks.

  • Designing the typography, layout, look and feel of Web pages.

  • Designing and incorporating graphics and interactive elements.

  • Sourcing, selecting, and organizing information for inclusion in the Web site.

  • Testing Web site functionality.

  • Updating Web content and maintaining Web sites.
